PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
 
Petra and Amanda will give a dynamic overview of the exhibition program at the Peabody Essex Museum in 2022. Exhibitions open opportunities for engaging new audiences and building bridges between cultures and communities. They will describe the process of exhibitions from first ideas and initial designs to funding sources and partnerships. ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
 
Petra Slinkard, Director of Curatorial Affairs and The Nancy B. Putnam Curator of Fashion and Textiles. 
Petra came to Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) from the Chicago History Museum where she worked with a collection of more than 50,000 examples of costume, fashion and textiles for exhibitions, acquisitions and online and community outreach. Prior to that, she worked at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, where she helped expand the museum's fashion exhibition offerings and collection, as well as its Fashion Society. At PEM, Petra oversees the museum’s newly opened Carl and Iris Barrel Apfel Gallery of Fashion and Design and was the co-curator of Made It: The Women who Revolutionized Fashion. She is currently serving as coordinating curator for the upcoming exhibition Patrick Kelly: Runway of Love, opening in June 2022. In her role as Director of Curatorial Affairs, Petra oversees the integration of PEM’s exhibition research and curatorial teams and develops departmental priorities and the strategies to deliver them.
 
Amanda Clark MacMullan, Chief Philanthropy Officer:
Amanda joined PEM in June 2014 and has over 20 years of high-level fundraising experience from the education and nonprofit sectors. Her previous leadership roles at Harvard, MIT, New Profit, and Boston University have provided the experience requisite in her role at the museum. At PEM, Amanda cultivates global, national, regional and local support for museum initiatives, annual giving, and Membership. She leads the final phase of the museum's $650 million + PEM Connect Campaign. Amanda oversees the Development Department and its 5 primary teams: Major Gifts: Individual and institutional Giving, Stewardship, Inclusive Philanthropy & Membership, Donor Relations & Events, and Development Operations.
