Ice Cream Social!

Posted on May 29, 2018
What better way to ease back into the work week after a holiday weekend? Betsy, Linda and Katelyn met at Volente Farms to test out their ice cream stand that just opened for the season. We enjoyed our treats outside at a picnic table sharing funny stories and learning more about one another. There is nothing a little sunshine, ice cream and good company can't fix!

We had a lovely afternoon lunch by the Charles River on a beautiful day. Conversation was personal and a great opportunity to get to know fellow WBG members in a more intimate setting. We all agreed more events outdoors would be a lovely addition to our calendar for members and guests.

Wine Tasting Event

Posted on Apr 21, 2018
What a perfect way to welcome the spring- FINALLY!
Patty, Maruta, Katelyn and a guest met at the Wine & Provisions Shop in Sherborn to enjoy a complimentary wine tasting. We enjoyed sampling and learning about the unique selections of wines carried and the background of the family vineyards they come from. Following our wine tasting we headed into the pub at the Heritage to have some lunch together. We all left full, happy and with wine cabinets to stock!

Revolving Luncheon

Posted by Lynda Furash on Apr 20, 2018
Seven of us enjoyed lunch at The Local and traded networking tips.  Two standouts:  (1) "Butt in Chair" -- a commitment to sit down and make telephone calls, both cold calls and renewing connections; and (2) flyer from local realtor highlighting recent sales in the neighborhood and including a recipe appealed to WBG member; it was the recipe which saved this flyer from the circular file and made a positive impression.  Others spoke strongly about the importance of getting to know people and making human connections, without regard to a specific sale or networking goal, under the umbrella of "you never know."  We left feeling motivated and, with warming temps, cautiously hopeful about spring!

I Did It!

I'm thrilled to announce that I was awarded a Certificate in College Counseling with Distinction from the UCLA Extension School on May 19, 2018. This professional certificate compliments my experience in higher education, especially the time I spent both working as a staff member in an elite college admission office and as a faculty reader and voting member of an elite college's Admission Committee. If you have a junior in high school (or know someone who does) and you're looking for assistance navigating the increasingly complex college admission landscape, send me an e-mail!

Let's Do Coffee! 3.23.18

Happy Friday, WBG! Eight members gathered at Wholefoods in Wellesley for coffee and roundtable networking. We began with some casual conversation and recent examples of customer interactions that we had learned from. Many of us shared a laugh over the "Do It Yourselfers" who ultimately end up paying more by the time they realize they need a professional. We then went around the table to speak towards who our Women Mentors are and why, in honor of Women's History Month. Great to hear that many of us rely on women in our personal lives who gave us the support and inspiration we needed to get to where we are today. Don't forget to recognize and thank the women mentors in your life!

Brunch is Always a Good Idea!

5 WBG members and a new guest, Lynn Croft (who discovered us via our website) joined together for Sunday Brunch at The Local in Wellesley this past weekend. It was a refreshing change of pace from the week day noise and truly allowed us to enjoy each other's company and learn about one another, both personally and professionally. We've collectively decided we will continue hosting weekend brunch events to members. Check the online calendar for our next upcoming brunch location reveal, and feel free to bring guests!

Private Spa Yoga Class

Four WBG members got together Tuesday evening for a private in-home yoga class. The instructor tailored our class to be suitable for beginners and to be more restorative and relaxing, per our request. We enjoyed getting together outside of a business setting, hanging out in yoga pants and t-shirts (the absolute BEST). The spa yoga class was 60 minutes with the perfect balance of muscle training and stretching, ending with a mindful piece that allowed us to truly unwind. It's amazing how nice it is to just breath and be- a reminder we can all use regularly! We all agreed this will need to be a reoccurring event for members.

Katelyn's Lunch 2.27

Today we held one of three revolving lunch groups at Bocado in Wellesley. The lunch served as a more intimate setting for a group of 5 WBG members to have informal discussion which ranged from grandkids, to book recommendations, to favorite places to shop and vacation inspiration. We took about 30 minutes to go around the table to hear everyone's input to the hot topic provided: "What is your goal for 2018 and how can WBG members help you get there?". Betsy is looking for property listings to advocate for, Jen hopes to expand to a younger client base, Elise is looking for experienced electricians to add to her team, Katelyn wants to work with local small businesses & schools, and Gina is completely enjoying retirement :)

Let's Do Coffee! 2.23.18

Is there anything better than starting a Friday off with productive conversation, great colleagues, and hot coffee? We had a group of 8 WBG members meet at Whole Foods for our February Let's Do Coffee! We enjoyed casual conversation and brainstorming for the first half hour and ended our meeting with a specific question: "What drives you to network?". Each participant shared their philosophy of networking and what keeps them engaged. We all had our own reasons, but there was a commonality: "you never know". How true- a connection today could lead to business down the road. Looking forward to our next Coffee!

Galentine's Paint Night!

Galentine's Day: (noun)  February 13th, the other half of valentine's day, when you celebrate your love for your lady friends!
Last night, women of WBG gathered at the Paint Bar in Newton to celebrate Galentine's Day- a day for the girls. There were 4 members and 2 guests that attended. We set up our stations, filled our wine glasses and got our paint on! The Paint Bar provided festive chocolates and cupcakes and taught us how to create a heart inspired masterpiece on our canvases. This is such a fun activity to do as a group with hysterical comments on our creations, fun music in the background and some casual networking between laughs. We all agreed we will be doing this again soon, keep an eye on the calendar for our next paint night!

Let's Do Coffee 1/26

This morning's Let's Do Coffee was a great success! We had 7 members and a guest attend who is a publisher for a local magazine. There was great casual conversation had and we spent some time learning about whether each person felt they are working IN their business (day to day tasks) or ON their business (taking a step back to see the grand picture and how to improve). Wonderful suggestions, advice and experience was shared. Our guests will be attending the upcoming General Meeting on 2/9 and I know all our members will be excited to learn of her business.

Our next Let's Do Coffee is scheduled for Friday, 2/23 8-9AM. Members and guests may register here: http://wbgconnects.com/Events/february-let-s-do-coffee

Why do I need a permit?

Posted by Andrea Booth on Mar 29, 2017
Spring is right around the corner and with it comes an increase in construction projects for homeowners and businesses. And with new projects come new permits and inspections. Permits filed in the construction departments of cities and towns are for the benefit of the home or business owner, not the construction companies.
